The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has urged Nigerians in France to remain calm and respect French laws amid current concerns affecting their communities.
NiDCOM Chairman/CEO Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa made the call in a statement by the commission’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Mr Abdur-Rahman Balogun.
She urged Nigerians in France to exercise restraint, uphold public order, avoid confrontation, violence and provocation, and cooperate peacefully with lawful instructions from French authorities.
Dabiri-Erewa also advised them to follow verified safety guidance and avoid spreading rumours and unverified information, particularly on social media.
She said Nigerians in the diaspora were ambassadors of their country and shared responsibility for upholding Nigeria’s image while respecting the laws and institutions of their host country.
She urged anyone whose safety or rights were at risk to seek legal assistance and contact the relevant emergency or consular services.
Dabiri-Erewa appealed to community leaders, families, students, professionals and associations across France to promote peace, unity and responsibility, and to help maintain calm.
