Editorial Standards & Corrections

Standards for reporting, attribution, opinion and reader feedback.

Updated 25 October 2026

Accuracy and context

Montage Africa’s editorial standard is to present information accurately, provide useful context and distinguish verified facts from allegations, uncertainty and opinion. Headlines and images should reflect the substance of the report. Developing stories can change, and publication dates should be considered when reading an older article.

Attribution and third-party reporting

Sources, authors, contributors and agencies should be credited as appropriate. Where a story draws on external reporting, attribution should make that relationship clear. A named WordPress account may administer publication while the article itself credits a reporter or agency. Permissions and reuse rights must be respected; attribution alone does not establish a licence.

Opinion and commercial material

Opinion should be identifiable as such. Paid or sponsored material and relevant affiliate relationships should be disclosed clearly. Advertising should be distinguishable from reporting. Commercial relationships should not be presented as independent editorial endorsements.

Fairness, privacy and sensitive subjects

Reporting should consider relevant perspectives, the strength of available evidence, privacy and potential harm, particularly when covering children, vulnerable people or unproven allegations. Publication decisions should be proportionate to the public interest. Readers may raise concerns about context, representation or personal information through the Contact page.

Corrections and complaints

To request a correction, send the article URL, identify the passage or image, explain what you believe is wrong and provide supporting evidence or a reliable source where possible. Put “Correction request” in the subject of the contact form. A correction request is reviewed on its merits; disagreement with a clearly labelled opinion does not by itself establish a factual error.

Updates and transparency

Material factual errors should be corrected when established. Significant corrections or updates should be explained in a way appropriate to the article. Minor spelling or formatting changes may be made without a separate notice. Publication is not a promise that every article will be continuously updated.

Story tips and confidentiality

Use the Contact page for general tips and pitches. If a matter requires confidentiality, ask the editorial team about an appropriate channel before sending sensitive information. The public contact form is not represented as an anonymous or specially secured whistleblowing service.
