Mozambique has officially joined Africa’s gas-producing nations with the production of its first-ever batch of locally made cooking gas.

This exciting development springs from a new, state-of-the-art facility in Inhassoro, which processed natural gas into liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). This domestic production is a game-changer, poised to cut the country’s reliance on costly imports by a staggering 70%.

For Mozambican households, this promises a future with more stable, affordable, and predictable access to clean cooking fuel. Sasol’s Managing Director, Ovídio Rodolfo, hailed the development as a key step toward monetizing natural gas and creating domestic value.

The successful project marks a significant stride in the continent’s broader movement toward energy independence, demonstrating a powerful shift from merely exporting raw resources to creating value at home.
