President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Brazil’s Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election and called for closer cooperation between the two countries. In a statement released by Nigeria’s State House on 26 October, Tinubu described the renewed mandate as an opportunity to strengthen their longstanding ties.
He identified trade and investment, agriculture and food security, energy, manufacturing, science and technology, education, aviation and cultural exchange as areas where he wants the relationship to grow.
Tinubu also pointed to the countries’ roles in Africa and South America and said Nigeria would continue working with Brazil on shared multilateral priorities. The statement expressed policy intentions; it did not announce a new agreement, funding commitment or timetable.
Any expansion of commercial or diplomatic cooperation will depend on subsequent decisions by both governments and their partners.
