Nigeria’s seaports are poised for a major technological leap forward, thanks to a new partnership with China. In a recent high-level meeting in London, Chinese officials pledged strong technical support to modernize and fully automate Nigeria’s key maritime gateways.
This collaboration will focus on port digitization, enhancing maritime safety, and developing vital shipbuilding capabilities. The alliance aims to transform Nigeria’s ports into efficient, paperless hubs, directly supporting a broader national strategy to boost the marine and blue economy.
Additionally, China has promised maritime training for Nigerian youth and backed the country’s bid for a seat on the International Maritime Organization Council. The commitment comes as Nigeria invests $1 billion to upgrade Apapa and Tin Can Island ports.
