Seriake Dickson lauded for funding Nigerian wrestlers to WWC

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State.

The Nigeria Wrestling Federation, NWF, has commended the Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson for funding Nigeria’s participation in the ongoing 2017 World Wrestling Championships in Paris, France.

NWF President, Daniel Igali stated this from Paris; he  maintained that if not for the gesture, the country’s contingent might have not made the tournament, according to Agency report.

“I am indeed thankful to the governor for his enormous contributions to wrestling development.

“ I am grateful for this gesture and so also are the wrestlers and board members of NWF.

“The Bayelsa Government came to our rescue with funding. The wrestlers are grateful to Gov. Dickson and the Deputy Governor, Rear Adm. Gboribiogha Jonah for their continuous support.

“We are extremely grateful to the Bayelsa Government; we were almost stranded before the intervention,’’ he said.

“Without the intervention we would have been incapacitated. This is the second time in six months that the governor is extending a hand of fellowship to the team.

“This gesture has motivated the wrestlers and we are sure something positive will happen.’’

Also, it was noted, the Bayelsa Government and the Nigeria Army sponsored the nation’s wrestlers to the 2017 Africa Wrestling Championship in Marrakech, Morocco.
