Residents laud FCT minister over unscheduled visit to community in Kuje

Malam Mohammed Bello

Residents of Shadadi Community in Kuje Area Council has applauded the FCT Minister, Malam Mohammed Bello over his unscheduled visit to the area to assess the state of infrastructure in the community.

The residents in separate interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Kuje said that the unscheduled visit was an opportunity for the minister to make on-the-spot assessment of the road infrastructure.

A resident, Mrs Kunuba John told NAN that Lanto road, which is in a deplorable state, was the only major road linking the community.

She said that through the visit, the minister had affirmed his commitment to grassroots development, adding that such a visit could not have come at a better time in view of the damage caused by erosion, affecting the major road.

“The minister’s unscheduled visit was the best thing that has happened to this community because politicians in the Area Council would have distracted him if it was announced.

“For me, the visit is an indication that minister is ready to work and not to stay in the comfort of his office and expect feelers  from the area councils.

“My appeal is for him to expedite actions in commencing work on the road and continue the good initiative of visiting project sites,” she said.

Mr Charles Ojukwu, another resident said that the initiative by the minister to see things by himself instead of relying on second hand information from some politicians was a “welcomed development”.

He noted that the initiative would enhance the development across satellite towns in the FCT.

“The minister has come to see things for himself and I am very sure he will accord this road the needed attention.

“The information available to us is that the road project had always been in the budget of the council had never been executed.

“My appeal is for the minister not to relent in visiting communities with challenges because this will go a long way in correcting false information by some politicians,” he said.

According to him, the visit is really a step in the right direction that will fast track development in communities such as  Shadadi.

Mr Mohammed Yachi, another resident commended the minister for the visit, adding that it was time for the community to feel the impact of government.

He said that the community had over the years not felt the impact of government  in the area of road infrastructure.
