PDP Governors Issue Warning: Hands Off My State!

The cautionary words of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, were directed towards governors who may attempt to take over the Peoples Democratic Party structure in Rivers State. During the party’s state congress at the PDP Secretariat in Port Harcourt, Wike made it clear that he would not tolerate any interference from governors in the crisis that is currently affecting Rivers State.

Governor Sim Fubara has been backed by PDP governors after a review of party congress outcomes was called for during a meeting held on August 23 in Taraba State. The communique read by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, chairman of PDP’s governors forum, supported Fubara’s leadership role and called for its restoration.

However, Wike condemned this call and urged PDP governors to stay away from affairs concerning Rivers. He warned that anyone who attempts to take away the structure of PDP from them will face consequences.

Wike stated: “I hear some governors who say they will take over the structure and give back to somebody. I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states. When God has given you peace, you say you don’t want peace; anything you see you take.”

He also added: “Because I heard they got some money from a signature bonus, and so their heads are getting big that you will put a hand in my own state. Prepare because I have the capacity to also do the same thing in your own state.”

Wike emphasized that he does not care which state these interfering individuals come from; if they try to involve themselves with Rivers State politics then their hands will get burnt and they will never sleep peacefully again.

It is important for all parties involved to respect each other’s boundaries and avoid unnecessary conflict or power struggles within political structures. Any attempts at interference or takeover can lead to negative consequences for all involved parties as well as citizens affected by such actions.

PDP Governors Issue Warning: Hands Off My State!

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors have issued a stern warning to the federal government and other security agencies to steer clear of their states. This warning came after the recent arrest of Governor Nyesom Wike’s aide, and the invasion of the home of Governor Samuel Ortom. The PDP governors, under the aegis of the PDP Governors’ Forum, expressed concern about the increasing level of harassment and intimidation of political leaders in the country, and called for a halt to these actions.

What’s Happening?

The PDP governors are worried about the increasing level of harassment and intimidation of their members by the federal government and other security agencies. The recent arrest of Governor Wike’s aide, and the invasion of the home of Governor Ortom, are just the latest in a series of incidents that have raised concerns among the PDP governors. The governors’ forum has accused the federal government of trying to intimidate and harass opposition political leaders in the country.

The PDP Governors’ Forum Statement

The PDP Governors’ Forum has released a statement warning the federal government and other security agencies to steer clear of their states. The statement reads in part, “We note with concern the increasing level of harassment and intimidation of political leaders in the country, especially those in opposition political parties. The recent arrest of Governor Wike’s aide, and the invasion of the home of Governor Ortom are clear examples of these actions. We call on the federal government and other security agencies to immediately halt these actions and focus on their primary responsibility of protecting the lives and properties of all Nigerians.”

The statement continues, “We want to state unequivocally that we will not allow any individual or group, no matter how powerful, to intimidate and harass our members. We are the leaders of our respective states, and we will do everything within the ambit of the law to protect the people of our states. We call on our colleagues in other political parties to join us in condemning these undemocratic actions and working towards a peaceful, united, and prosperous Nigeria.”

Why It Matters

The PDP governors’ warning is significant because it shows the growing frustration and concern among opposition political leaders in the country. The federal government has been accused of using security agencies to harass and intimidate opposition leaders, with the aim of silencing dissenting voices. This is a worrying trend that threatens the democratic process and undermines the rule of law.

The PDP governors’ warning is also important because it shows that the opposition is united and ready to stand up against any attempt to subvert the democratic process. The PDP governors represent a significant part of the opposition, and their warning is a clear message to the federal government that they will not be intimidated or silenced.

What Can Be Done?

The PDP governors’ warning is a wake-up call for all Nigerians to take action against the growing authoritarianism in the country. It is important for civil society groups, human rights organizations, and other political parties to join the PDP governors in condemning these undemocratic actions and working towards a peaceful and united Nigeria.

There is also a need for government officials to respect the rule of law and respect the rights of opposition leaders. Political leaders should be allowed to carry out their duties without fear of intimidation or harassment.

Conclusion

The PDP governors’ warning is a clear message to the federal government that they should stop harassing and intimidating opposition leaders in the country. It is important for all Nigerians to join this call and work towards a peaceful, united, and prosperous Nigeria. The rule of law and respect for human rights must be upheld, and political leaders must be able to carry out their duties without fear of intimidation or harassment. All rights reserved.
