PDP flags off campaign in Anambra

Onitsha, the commercial city of Anambra State, was agog yesterday as Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, stalwarts, led by its national chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Makarfi; former Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme; former Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives, Chief Emeka Ihedioha; Senator Ben Ndi Obi; former Governor Peter Obi; Mrs. Josephine Aneni; Alhaji Abdul Ningi; Senator Magery Okadigbo; Professor A. B. C. Nwosu and Chief Raymond Dokpesi, stormed the city to flag of the party’s campaign for the state’s governorship election.

Addressing party supporters at the All Saints Cathedral Field, the immediate past governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, reminded the people that he told the incumbent Governor Willie Obiano at the same All Saints Cathedral Field, that he will be the first to campaign against him if he did not perform well.

While handing over the party’s flag to Mr. Obaze, Alhaji Markafi urged him not to disappoint  the people of the state but to work in harmony with them.

Dr. Ekwueme, in his speech, said Mr. Obi wrestled power out of PDP in Anambra State “because of the carelessness and selfish interests of our members who were contesting the gover-norship in other parties.

“Peter Obi has realised his mistake and is now in our fold, and he will lead us to wrestle power out of the people he gave it to, who have destroyed and set Anambra State backward, and this task we must achieve, by everybody joining hands together with us.” Other party stalwarts at the event were former Aviation Minister, Mrs. Kema Chikwe; Senator Stella Omu, representing PDP BoT Chairman, Senator Wali Jubrin and Mrs. Beatrice Ekwueme.
