The Senate committee on Health today being 22nd of march. 2016. Urged the Nigeria medical practitioner in diaspora to come and establish in Nigeria. The call became necessary at the time the nation is facing various challenges in the health sector. Todays committee meeting agenda chaired by the chairman senate committee on Health Sen. Lanre Tejuosho. Engaged the president of Nigerians Medical Diaspora Professional Association. Dr Nkem Chukwumerije and his teams on issues preventing Nigerians medical professionals abroad to invest in our health sector during the committee meeting. The keys factors militating against Nigerians professionals returning home to establish their wealth of knowledge were highlighted which centers on lack adequate facilities and low interest loans for medical practitioners who are willing to come home to invest in Nigeria health sector.
However. Funding was ruled out by the senate chairman committee on health sighting that the Indians who are not Nigeria are investing in the sector and establishing hospitals, Dental clinics and they benefiting from the sector. He also made it clear that the present Nigeria economic situation may not guarantee low interest loans for any business whatsoever because of the nation is undergoing various challenges in the economy.
The committee also assured the Nigerians Medical Diaspora Professional Association that the committee will report back to the senate for further legistive action based on information gathered so far this is to improve the health sector in Nigeria.
