Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, a senior leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has stated that his party has no knowledge of any government committee being formed for negotiations with the PTI. He added that if such a committee is indeed being formed, it should be done in consultation with the PTI leadership.
Khan made these comments during a press conference held in Islamabad on Monday. He also criticized the government’s handling of the ongoing political crisis and called for an end to violence against peaceful protesters.
The PTI has been staging protests across Pakistan since August 14, demanding an investigation into alleged rigging during last year’s general elections and calling for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to resign. The protests have turned violent at times, resulting in clashes between police and protesters.
Meanwhile, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, head of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), has called on all parties involved in the current political crisis to engage in dialogue and find a peaceful solution. Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Achakzai said that violence was not the answer and urged all sides to show restraint.
The situation remains tense as both sides continue to dig their heels in. The government has refused to step down or meet any of the PTI’s demands while Imran Khan, chairman of the PTI, has vowed to continue his protest until Sharif resigns or fresh elections are held.
It is unclear how long this impasse will last but many fear that it could lead to further instability in Pakistan which is already grappling with numerous challenges including terrorism and economic woes.

A few days ago, it was announced by PTI Punjab Information Secretary Shaukat Basra that their Lahore rally originally scheduled for August 27 would be postponed due to their focus solely being on their upcoming Islamabad rally which was also recently rescheduled from August 22nd until September 8th following direction from Imran Khan himself as well as requests from local authorities who issued new No Objection Certificates (NOC) for this revised date.
The new date for Lahore’s rally will be announced after completion of its Islamabad counterpart event.
