Ex-Govs got N2.484bn waiver for new private jets, helicopter

Ex-Governors of Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Taraba State,Godswill Akpabio; Rotimi Amaechi and Danbaba Suntaireportedly benefited from huge waivers running to billions of Naira on the purchase of private jets and helicopters.

According to a report by Premium Times, in 2012, the ex-Governors got waives running into N2.484bn for purchasing choice aircrafts that include a G450 5N 4241 Aircraft, Bombardier aircraft, Bell 412 Axis Helicopters and a Bell 407 Helicopter.

In the report which shows N68.8billion was granted as waivers by the President Goodluck Jonathan‘s led administration in 2012, Akpabio and Suntai were some of the individuals that benefited immensely from the gesture.

Akwa Ibom State government, under Akpabio, received waiver to purchase a G450 5N 4241 Aircraft, which attracted an import duty of N271.3million.

In the same vein, the Taraba State government under Danbaba Suntai received waiver to buy a Bell 407 Helicopter with the import duty on of N13.1million.
