‘Be confident, great things await us’- Bongo tells supporters

Gabon’s president Ali Bongo Ondimba has called on his supporters to remain calm and wait for official results of the presidential election which will be announced on Tuesday in Libreville.

His camp also claimed victory shortly after his main rival Jean Ping said trends indicated that the opposition was leading.

“We are confidently waiting and I want to say big thank you to every one be confident great things await us ,” Ali Bongo told a jubilant crowd.

We are confidently waiting and I want to say big thank you to every one be confident great things await us

Analysts fear violence might erupt if one of the parties claiming victory fails to accept the results of the polls.

Gabon’s interior ministry says the election was free and fair despite claims of fraud noticed in some polling stations.

Ali Bongo became president following the death of his father Omar Bongo Ondimba in 2009.
