The opposition politician is facing five charges linked to protests that erupted after thecountry’s disputed 2024 presidential election. Mondlane was notified on August 25 that he will stand trial before Mozambique’s Supreme Court.
He is not under arrest, and no trial date has been announced yet. Prosecutors accuse him of public advocacy of crime, incitement to collective disobedience, public instigation to a crime, instigation to terrorism and incitement to terrorism. Mondlane denies the allegations.
