The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has urged South-East governors to declare May 30 a public holiday in recognition of Biafra Day.
The date is observed by pro-Biafra activists to remember people who died during the Biafra civil war.
IPOB spokesman Emma Powerful said leaders in the South-East and South-South should set aside May 30 to commemorate Biafra’s fallen soldiers. He pointed to the South-West’s observance of June 12 as Democracy Day and a public holiday as an example.
Powerful said IPOB will continue to mark May 30 as Biafra Heroes Day until governors formally declare it a public holiday.
